Electronic invoicing and its important changes

The electronic invoice, despite being similar to the conventional invoice in terms of rights and obligations, presents significant changes in the issuance and storage.

Benefits of electronic invoicing

  • Reduction of administrative costs: Lower management, printing and shipping costs.
  • Environmental impact: Reduction of the carbon footprint.

Current regulations

  • Law 18/2022 December 28: It requires companies and professionals to issue electronic invoices.
  • Mandatory deadlines:
    • Companies with an annual turnover of less than 8 million: Required by the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026.
    • Other professionals: Required approximately 2 years after the entry into force of the law.

Additional benefits

  • Right of the recipient to require electronic copies at no additional cost for 4 years.
  • Access and manage invoices from anywhere.

Sanctions

  • Fine of up to 10,000 euros for non-compliance with mandatory electronic invoicing.
